Empowered by Section 22 of the UGC Act 1956, MGU has the authority to confer degrees specified by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) in Meghalaya provides an array of undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), diploma, M.Phil., and Ph.D. programs across various disciplines. At the UG level, MGU offers courses such as B.A. LL.B, LLB, B.Sc., BCA, BBA, B.A., BMLT, BPP, B.Com., BRIT, and BPT. For PG studies, the university offers LLM, PGDCA, M.Sc., MCA, MBA, MHM, M.A., M.Com., MRIT, and MMLT programs. Additionally, MGU provides diploma courses in 14 specialized fields, along with M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs at the doctoral level.
Eligibility criteria for these programs are as follows:
Candidates who have completed their 10+2 from any stream are eligible for UG and Diploma courses at MGU.
For LLB, applicants need a graduation degree from any stream with a minimum of 45% marks.
BRIT, BMLT, and BPT courses require 10+2 in the science stream with 40% marks for BRIT and BMLT, and 45% marks for BPT.
Graduates from relevant streams can apply for PG courses.
LLM applicants should hold a 3-year LLB degree or a 5-year BA LLB degree.
Those aiming for Ph.D. or M.Phil. programs need a post-graduation degree with at least 55% marks.
Admission to UG, PG, Diploma, and doctoral courses at MGU is based on MGU-GET scores and performance in a personal interview.
