Biotechnology as a B.Tech is an undergraduate engineering study in the field of engineering. The study lasts four years and is divided into eight semesters. The focus of the course is on biotechnology as a whole. Biotechnology engineering is a branch of applied biology and chemical engineering that deals with the use of live organisms in engineering, technology, medicine, and other practical applications. The B.Tech Biotechnology Syllabus is meant to improve students' problem-solving abilities by teaching them core engineering courses that they can apply in the research and production of biotechnical equipment used in medical and pharmaceutical areas. In addition, the course covers biological components, chemical activities of organisms, and bioinformatics.

Biotechnology is a branch of applied biology that includes using living organisms and bioprocesses in engineering, technology, medicine, and other industries that require bioproducts. These products are also used in biotechnology for manufacture. Genetic engineering, as well as cell and tissue culture methods, are examples of current terminology with similar meanings. The course is part of the B.Tech. programme.
Intermediate (10+2) with topics such as Physics, Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry is required for b tech biotechnology eligibility. A student must have received a minimum of 50% in both secondary and higher secondary school.
Various colleges and institutes may have their own set of additional requirements that students must meet in order to be admitted. Students in the reserved category must submit their reservation certificates issued by the appropriate authorities in order to receive the benefits that apply to them.
Holders of a diploma in biotechnology engineering or another mechanical or associated discipline who completed their diploma after 10th grade are also eligible for lateral entry into the second year of the programme.
Admission to the B Tech Biotechnology Program varies from one institute to the next. Some institutions admit students based on their academic merit and create a cut-off list. Students who have taken the JEE Main exam, which covers physics, chemistry, and mathematics, are considered by the IITs. There are certain colleges that hold their own entrance exam for admittance. The main requirements for entry to B.Tech Biotechnology are physics, chemistry, and biology.
For admission to B.Tech courses, most universities/colleges run a common entrance test (like BITS, HITS) or take admissions through commonly organised B.Tech Entrance Exams like JEE Main. In order to be admitted to the course, students must pass these tests (for which they must be eligible to sit).
The following table lists the universities and colleges that offer the course:
S No. | B.Tech in Biotechnology College |
1 | IIT Kharagpur |
2 | IIT Roorkee |
3 | IIT Guwahati |

Aspirants to the B.Tech Biotechnology programme can take a variety of entrance exams offered by national testing agencies and private universities/colleges. The exams offered are given below:
The course fees for the B.Tech Biotechnology course may vary depending on the infrastructure and amenities given by the University/college. The typical annual B.Tech Biotechnology course fees range from INR 25,000 to INR 2,00,000.
Bachelor of Technology in Biotechnology, sometimes known as B Tech Biotechnology, is an undergraduate Biotechnology programme. The course will take a comprehensive approach to students, allowing them to become better human beings by providing transparency between contemporary biotechnology advances and their daily processes. Biotechnology engineering is concerned with the use of basic engineering concepts in chemical engineering and applied biology, which is concerned with the use of living organisms in technology, medicine, nutrition, environmental conservation, and other useful applications. However, the knowledge gained from this course can be applied to a variety of other technological applications, such as building medical equipment, genetic studies, and engineering, and so on. Because it comprises disciplines related to biotechnology, the B.Tech Biotechnology Engineering syllabus encourages the expansion of this stream.
The following are some of the topics in the B.Tech Biotech curriculum:
